(03) Parque Órbita
Parque Órbita, a proposal for a space to gather, rest, and exercise, enhances the opportunity for increased health in the northern Mexican border. Hangin conducted group dialogues with interactive materials to engage the local community in identifying design solutions. Participants included middle and high school students, residents living with HIV, program managers, and teachers. Together, the groups identified the fountain as an ideal gathering space and decided to incorporate elements of both rest and exercise. Tenda di Cristo has succeeded in creating a diverse environment for a better quality of life, which Parque Órbita aims to propel.
The recreational space is framed by native desert plants, chosen for their low water requirements and ability to provide a serene connection to nature. The shade structure rehabilitates an existing fountain and offers relief from harsh Chihuahua sun and heat exposure. Around the shade orbits a circuit of bodyweight training stations.
Woven through personal connections, the potential health benefits are numerous: mentally, by fostering bonds with others and with nature; physically, through exercise and providing the community with a positive space to gather.

(04) Triángulo
TriÁngulo combines three angles of mental, physical, and social health in its holistic approach to support general well-being. Through this approach, the design aims to promote experiences of rest, exercise, and play. Middle school-aged kids participated in co-designing this proposal for future users through a series of hands-on “mesas de trabajo” or working tables.
By drawing and painting the map of CIDeSES with graffiti, the kids created their mental map of the center, highlighting the spaces best suited for the structure. Shapes and uses were explored by model building using modular sticks and balls. Dialogues sparked during the working tables and provided us with further knowledge that everyone shares a few couches at the entrance and by the music room to sit. We discussed how individual personalities play into the use of a shared space.
Calisthenic exercise is facilitated by a pullup bar reachable by two reaching steps at different heights, by a set of dip bars, and medium height bars for play and parkour. Hooks are set on the inside of the center of the prism to hang hammocks, as well as a hook under the topmost bar to hang a boxing bag. Laid-back sitting is additionally made possible by a net that drapes over three tubes forming a hammock-like seat.
